Goodbye To Our Tall Tree

It is spring and it is still raining. The neighbours houses were in danger! The tallest tree at Pinehill was leaning over badly. Sadly, the tree had to be cut down.
We watched the Tree Kings cut off the leafy branches first. They had to climb really high and they used a lot of ropes to control how the branches fell.
Finally the last cut! With a sickening crack, the last big piece of the trunk
Was pulled off. Our beautiful tall tree was gone. it was a bit sad really.
Afterwards we were able to talk to the guys about their job and the equipment they use.
These are the spikes that they strap onto their legs so that they can dig their feet  into the tree trunk while they are up high.
Here is the chainsaw that was dangling from the harness as the man swayed around at the top of the tree.
This is the heavy harness the Tree Kings wear when they are up the tree. Thick ropes, clips, pulleys and the massive chainsaw all hang off the harness.
We will miss our last tall tree. One day our Pohutakawa trees will take its place and in spring we will be surrounded by crimson flowers.
