Goodbye To Our Tall Tree

It is spring and it is still raining. The neighbours houses were in danger! The tallest tree at Pinehill was leaning over badly. Sadly, the tree had to be cut down.
We watched the Tree Kings cut off the leafy branches first. They had to climb really high and they used a lot of ropes to control how the branches fell.
Finally the last cut! With a sickening crack, the last big piece of the trunk
Was pulled off. Our beautiful tall tree was gone. it was a bit sad really.
Afterwards we were able to talk to the guys about their job and the equipment they use.
These are the spikes that they strap onto their legs so that they can dig their feet  into the tree trunk while they are up high.
Here is the chainsaw that was dangling from the harness as the man swayed around at the top of the tree.
This is the heavy harness the Tree Kings wear when they are up the tree. Thick ropes, clips, pulleys and the massive chainsaw all hang off the harness.
We will miss our last tall tree. One day our Pohutakawa trees will take its place and in spring we will be surrounded by crimson flowers.

Where I am From...

We have been studying the poem Where I am From by George Ella Lyon. We have worked very hard to construct our own poems...

I am from monkey bars and swings,
I`m from the dungeon of E.S.O.L,
I`m from the reading
and writing poems.

I am from the river in my backyard
splashes tide in tide out
scared
I might fall in

I am from bored watching

there is nothing to do

I am from the red bricks
under covers and no running.
It makes me feel safe.

I am from the big tree.
Friends,daisies.
Relaxing. (Tru)

I am from the dangerous car park
be careful fast machines,
you have to watch out!!!!!
nervous

I am from b-ball
complicated
passing, bouncing

I am from playground outside my classroom
Noisy new games

New Books!!!!!

We are the first people in Pinehill School to read this book! It is called Pompaii and we LOVED it. We were surprised, saddened and fascinated by the book. Now everyone wants to read it.

Brooke thinks we need to go on a trip to Pompaii to see it for real. Imagine how great that would be.

A Class Full Of Readers

At the start of the year we sat. Slowly we began to sneaky read anything and everything near us on the mat. Now look at us! Mrs Moore has to stop us reading when we have to pay attention. The more a class reads - the more a class reads!

Ode To My Feet

Oh my darling feet
Oh you can stand me up very tall
Oh you can balance me
Oh you can run me up steep hills
Oh you power me up
Oh you are so great an awesome
